Commercial Interior- Lobby Area

Updated: Apr 12, 2020

Our brief was to design and build a clean and modern looking reception area for our clients using bespoke furniture designed in-house at Milani Creations. The reception area was to include a spectacular three-metre-long reception desk and a stunning built-in corner sofa with cabinets and planters to complement them.

As with all of our projects, no matter how big or small, our design team first set about turning the brief into reality and produced stunning 3D visuals and a fly-through video, which shows the furniture layout and gives an overall feel of the space. This is a key stage in our design process and demonstrates our full understanding of the brief given and enables the client to visualise how their new space will look.

The desk and sofa were the main elements to the design, so choice of material was key. We decided upon a high grade birch ply and Corian Solid Surface, a durable material that can survive the impact of every day nicks and cuts. This choice enabled us to create unique statement furniture with a seamless finish.

Our designers are fully aware that furniture used in high usage areas, such as receptions, must be strong and durable, however they never want to compromise on design, so underneath the beautiful clean lines and simple-looking design, there is a cleverly designed and precisely fabricated complex plywood structure which provides the strength and solidity that is required.

As the reception desk was one of the first things you see when you enter, we wanted it to stand out as a real focal point. We did this by using colour changing LED’s to add an injection of light and colour to the otherwise monochromatic feel of the room and by using an inlay technique to the ‘hello’ motif.

The idea behind the sofa and coffee table was to assimilate the shape of faceted gemstones with their beautiful geometric design and angular faces. In order for there to be flexibility if required, the base of the sofa was built in three separate sections which made it configurable as either a corner sofa or as a straight 6 seater sofa. The base was constructed out of CNC cut plywood and then finished with Corian. The soft-furnished seating area was upholstered in highly-durable grey fabric to fit in with the monochrome colour scheme and existing flooring.

Attention to detail is key to all our projects which is evident in the finishing touches we applied to complement our unique furniture, we crafted the client’s logo into a box and added back lighting to make it a focal point as well as adding laser cut acrylic writing on the walls.
